美國總統川普不滿貿易戰談判進度，今日凌晨在官方推特上表示，將對大陸2千億美元商品關稅全面提升到25%，使陸美貿易談判出現變數。港媒分析指出，川普一改先前態度，突顯2個主要事實：一是貿易協商仍有關鍵分歧，美方展開最後階段施壓；再來則是美方對北京下最後通牒，是要反制其「拖字訣」的談判策略。
《香港經濟日報》引述觀察人士說法指出，川普一改先前唱好雙方貿易談判進度的態度，主要是貿易談判仍有關鍵分歧未彌合，故川普在談判最後階段強力施壓，以促使陸方加碼讓步。
《華爾街日報》日前分析指出，陸美尚有以下矛盾尚未解決，包括雙方對撤銷懲罰性關稅的看法，美方堅持保留部份關稅，以作為貿易協議執行機制的一部份，陸方則希望可以先撤稅再簽貿易協議。其它分歧點還包括北京政府對國內的企業扶持政策、以及向外資開放雲計算市場等。
其次，川普出此招，意在反制北京政府的「拖字訣」談判策略。觀察人士指出，陸美2國在上述分歧仍難彌合，北京似乎正在拖延談判，以爭取得更多時間應對貿易戰緊張狀況，川普已意識到這1點，他在推特威脅將加碼關稅措施，無異是對陸方下最後通牒。
