本季的馬林魚陷入困境，責任最大的是執行長吉特(Derek Jeter)，其次大概就是蓋瑞丹波(Gary Denbo)。蓋瑞丹波是前洋基球員發展與球探部門的副總監，吉特兩年前買下馬林魚時從洋基把他挖過來，擔任他的副手。美媒《The Athletic》爆料，這位丹波很可能是毀掉馬林魚的頭號罪人。














丹波過去效力洋基，能力應不成問題，但他的態度很有問題。丹波的管理方式包括辱罵、歧視身材肥胖員工，而且極度偏袒自己人。最奇怪的是丹波不喜歡狗，他居然下令「開除」馬林魚1A「蚱蜢隊」的撿球狗，令全隊感到憤怒。

美國人很愛狗，棒球場的撿球狗更是人見人愛，這些狗會幫忙拾回界外球和球棒，負責把一籃一籃的球遞送給主審。蚱蜢隊從2006年開始訓練撿球狗，但是丹波痛恨牠們，包括一隻叫做「傑基羅賓森」的黑毛幼犬。









丹波宣稱的理由是那些狗屋妨礙了他的球場規劃。憤怒的蚱蜢隊於去年轉投海盜隊旗下，為這種原因鬧翻也算是奇事。有人認為這是丹波新官上任用以立威的手段，員工對丹波的不滿隨之爆發，報導指出洋基隊其實本來就不會跟丹波續約，只是吉特把這種人當寶，難怪搞得馬林魚一團亂了。
